Department introduction

Department of Business Administration (hereinafter referred to as the Department) was set up in AD 1994, at the inception of this University. After years of refinement and growth, not only is faculty strong, but the school system has become more complete, including: bachelor program, master program, master in-service special program, master in-service special program in high-end industrial operations, Ph. D. program in Taiwan industrial strategy and development, etc. The whole department has about 1,200 students. Under educational vision to “become quality Department of Business Administration breeding the VIP managers”, we have bred a large number of outstanding entrepreneurs.

1. Ph. D. program introduction:

[1] Ph. D. program description:

Ph. D. program in Taiwan industrial strategy and development of the Department (hereinafter referred to as Ph. D. program of the Department) was established in AD 2009, 2009 academic year, formerly known as “Ph. D. degree program in Taiwan industrial strategy and development”, incorporated into this Department after 2013 academic year, widely recruiting elite from industry, government, and academic communities. The Ph. D. program of the Department follows the university vision of “deeply cultivating in Taiwan, heading to the international community, and sustainable development” and the characteristics of the University’s School of Management (hereinafter referred to as the School) to develop the management talents of “professionalism”, “innovation”, “erudition”, drafts the vision for Ph. D. program of the Department as “construction of practical, innovative and internationalized industry research center, and becoming the leading academic institution of industry’s strategic development and research” and envisages “fostering talents of international industry management and strategic planning in cross-functional areas” as educational goal of the Department’s Ph. D. program. The Ph. D. program of the Department performs from three directions of the “practicality”, “innovation” and “internationalization”, etc., to practice the vision and educational objectives of the Ph. D. program of the Department, and in keeping with the three execution directions the Ph. D. program of the Department elaborates the three core capabilities the Ph. D. program students of the Department should have, including: “practice capability”, “innovation capability” and “international outlook and vision”. In order to enhance the core competence of the students, through the promotion and development of the curriculum planning corresponding to three core competencies (including: “industrial business strategy”, “industrial innovation and development strategy” and “industry international strategy” three large areas of the curriculum and others), the Ph. D. program of the Department is to achieve the vision and teaching objectives of the Ph. D. program of the Department, and thus fosters the Ph. D. program students of the Department to get the assessment, diagnosis, analysis, prediction ability in the context of industrial strategy development. In addition to multivariate courses planning and excellent teachers teaching, the Ph. D. program of the Department has combined business visit, organization of industry forum and the international symposium to strengthen international exchanges and thus assisted students to understand the industry and international pulsation and trends and to enhance the competitiveness in enrollment domestically and abroad.

[2] Course features:

Unlike course features of academically oriented doctoral program, the Ph. D. program of the Department adopts practice-oriented training, designs curriculum via “industrial business strategy”, “industrial innovation and development strategy” and “industry’s international strategy” three major areas, which have relevant practical courses. For example: “industries business strategy” curriculum area has: “Taiwan’s industrial development topic”, “corporate business strategy and legal topics, “industrial organization and leadership”, etc. practice courses. “Industrial innovation and development strateg” curriculum area offers: the practice curriculum of “industrial innovation and development strateg”. Content of course field is to visit various enterprises, understand the current status of each industry, and via principle learned in classroom, find opportunities and threat spots facing the industry, carry out industrial analysis and provide suggestions for the industry. “Industry international strategy” curriculum area offers: “global industry competitive analysis”, “global logistics strategy research”, “international corporate business and management”, etc. practice courses. To enable students to get the best learning and training, the Ph. D. program of the Department widely invites well-known and influential business elite in industry and excellent teachers from industry, government, academia circles to teach, and combines with industrial and academic research resources in the central region, to grasp industry pulsation and development.

[3] Teachers source:

 In addition to having doctorate degrees as well as the academic and professional conservation, all the teachers of the Ph. D. program of the Department still more have abundant industry practical experience. The Ph. D. program faculty of the Department integrate teacher expertise in the University departments. Mainly all the teachers in this School are included and teachers from Department of Information Management, School of Information and General Education Center provide science and technology professional key support. And we specially invite the teachers with extensive industry practical experience as lecture professors, providing industry experience more conformable to realistic pulsation and trend, to attract industry, government and academic talents to study here.

[4] Capacity development:

The Ph. D. program of the Department takes “industrial strategy development” as the main axle. For the sake of assisting students to research into the industry overall development and the operating level, through the integration of interdisciplinary courses, the Ph. D. program of the Department allows students with the industry experience to identify the best way to industry-university integration. Through combining theory taught in the University, the academic theory is able to be practically verified. We also allow students with practical experience to have the ability to discuss theory and capability to diagnose enterprise. Thus, through collaborative teaching, industry academia double teachers, enterprise diagnosis and case studies, workshops and discussions, industry forums, the actual visit and exchange of industry and business, seminars and research papers published and other practices, we enhance students’ ability to integrate the practice into academic discourse, and thus foster the students with assessment, diagnosis, analysis and forecasting capabilities on development of industrial strategy, to make them become the international high-end strategic or policy planning talents needed by industrial development.

[5] Course requirements:

The study term of the Ph. D. program of the Department is 2-7 years, the minimum credits for graduation is 33 credits (including doctoral dissertation 6 credits), and there are the relevant provisions of the prerequisite courses and graduation threshold.
